OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — The Kansas City Royals tell Spectrum News that they are no longer considering building a new stadium at the Aspiria Campus at 119th and Nall in Overland Park.
After a team affiliate purchased a mortgage for the campus in May 2025, the club has now determined that the 207-acre site no longer meets its needs for a new home.
“As stated when the Aspiria mortgage was acquired, the investment was made to maintain the site as an option for a new Kansas City Royals stadium,” a spokesperson for the team said. “After significant evaluation, we do not believe this site meets our criteria for a stadium.”
Last December, T-Mobile said it would relocate more than 3,500 employees if the Royals moved on campus. The team has not announced any additional alternative sites or revealed a timeline for its ultimate settlement.
“We continue to evaluate opportunities throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area to create a world-class ballpark district,” the spokesperson continued. “As always, we hear and appreciate the input of our fans throughout the region. We remain hard at work toward the best solution for our team, fans, partners, and community.”
Kansas City, Missouri, Mayor Quinton Lucas has publicly said he’d like for the new Royals stadium to take shape east of Union Station in Washington Square Park.
When Spectrum News reached out to Overland Park officials to confirm the pivot, they were unaware of any decisions having been made.
“Overland Park supports our hometown teams,” a spokesperson for the city said. “We know the Royals belong in the Kansas City region and will do everything in our power to keep them here.”
