The Hamilton Southeastern boys soccer team jumped right into action this month, having already compiled a 6-2 record.

The Royals, last season’s Class 2A state championship, began their season March 4 with a 20-2 win over Brebeuf Jesuit. Southeastern then rolled past Noblesville 19-4 on March 7.

The seniors led the way in both contests: Jake Kuxhausen and Marcus Laux each scored three goals against the Braves, then Henry Wans put in five goals against the Millers. Laux also scored three against Noblesville, as did sophomores Ben Speckman and Cohen O’Grady. Kuxhausen dished out four assists.

The Royals played their first road game at Guerin Catholic on March 11, taking on the defending 1A state champion. Southeastern won 11-6. The Royals played a back-to-back days later, beating South Oldham (Ky.) 13-7 on March 13 before falling to Cincinnati St. Xavier 7-2 on March 14.

Kuxhausen had three goals against the Golden Eagles. O’Grady put in four goals in the South Oldham game, while Laux scored three. Both played scored one goal each against St. Xavier.

Last week was another busy week for HSE. The Royals won 15-6 at Center Grove on Wednesday, March 18 before another back-to-back weekend. Southeastern edged out East Grand Rapids 15-14 in overtime on Friday, March 20 before dropping a 10-9 contest against Forest Hills Central on March 21.

Kuxhausen again led the way for the Royals over the Trojans with four goals, while Wans made three goals. Senior Kyle Jenkins had four goals in HSE’s game with Forest Hills Central. Stats for the East Grand Rapids game were unavailable at press time.

The Royals play three more games this week. First is the Mudsock game, which takes place Wednesday evening at Fishers. After that is a weekend trip to St. Louis, where Southeastern plays Christian Brothers on Friday night and Mary Institute and St. Louis Country Day (MICDS) at noon Saturday.
