KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Royals’ bullpen took another hit on Friday night, giving up a walkoff single in the bottom of the 11th to the St. Louis Cardinals, and also with yet another key arm heading to the injured list (IL).
The Royals placed left-hander Matt Strahm on the 15-day IL with right knee inflammation. It’s just the third IL stint of the 10-year veteran’s career.

In a corresponding move, lefty Bailey Falter was returned from his rehab assignment and reinstated from the injured list.
Strahm has been trusted with higher-leverage innings so far this season, but has struggled somewhat with control, giving up seven runs over just 16.1 innings.
The Royals will need to look elsewhere for the time being for relief in higher leverage settings. Luckily for them, LHP Daniel Lynch IV has been perhaps the main breakout story of the season for KC.
