Russell Crowe has revealed his weight loss secrets after struggling with arthritis in his shoulders made it difficult for him to work out.
The 61-year-old actor told Joe Rogan on his podcast that he went from 126kg to 100kg since he finished filming his new movie Nuremberg, which premiered this week.
He said a lot of his weight loss was thanks to the expertise from wellness company Ways2Well, as well as cutting back on alcohol during the week.
“I’m a big proponent for having a drink. It’s my cultural heritage and as a working-class man, it’s my goddamn right,” he said.
“But as you get older, there are certain things you start to learn about your capacities.
“Now that I’m an older guy, I know that one night a week, if I’m having fun, is plenty. I try to cut out the interstitial stuff.
“I try not to have casual drinks now, having a drink for the sake of it.”
Crowe said it had been hard for him to work out due to “old injuries” causing his shoulders to become “deeply arthritic”.
However, he’s been getting “injections” in his shoulders and knees, as well as “IVs” that have “calmed down his body’s inflammation”.
The Gladiator star said ultrasounds showed his arthritis has “lessened by about 70 per cent” since he started working with Ways2Well.
“It’s calmed down a lot of stuff and taken a lot of pain away from me so I can work out and not have to suffer for two to three hours afterwards,” he said.
This meant he was able to meet exercise requirements of three times a day while preparing for his role in the upcoming Highlander reboot.
“That, for me, is a bad recipe. I can do that for X amount of time but once I stop I’m going to stop completely. What I want to do is make all these changes long-term,” he said.
