A 2024 action thriller featuring Russell Crowe alongside two Hemsworth brothers will soon exit Netflix. The removal is part of the streamer’s monthly catalog refresh, which includes dropping titles whose licensing agreements have expired.
Land of Bad exits Netflix in July
Netflix subscribers won’t be able to stream Land of Bad on the platform from Saturday, July 18, 2026 (via What’s on Netflix).
William Eubank directed the film and co-wrote the script with David Frigerio. The pair also served as co-producers. In an interview with ComicBook.com, Eubank shared that he wrote the script while filming his 2014 psychological thriller, The Signal. He believed that movie was “too crazy and weird,” and wanted to make “something more grounded.”
Land of Bad centers on a U.S. special operations team that is sent to the Philippines to rescue a CIA spy. But the operation goes wrong as the team is ambushed. Sergeant JJ Kinney, the youngest member of the team, becomes the only survivor of the attack. Stranded on the island, Kinney tries to rescue his team from terrorists’ captivity with air support from Air Force drone pilot Captain Eddie “Reaper” Grimm.
The film’s cast includes Russell Crowe, Liam Hemsworth, Luke Hemsworth, Ricky Whittle, and Milo Ventimiglia, among others.
The Avenue and Variance Films handled the film’s distribution. It received a theatrical release in the United States on February 16, 2024. Paramount Pictures distributed it digitally, releasing it on PVOD platforms the following month, on March 19. The film later began streaming on Netflix from July 18 of the same year.
Land of Bad received mixed-to-positive reviews from critics but was much more popular with audiences. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a 66% critic score based on 64 reviews. In contrast, audiences gave it a 93% score. Despite this, the film grossed just a little over $7 million at the box office against a $20 million budget.
