Ryan Reynolds is reflecting on getting into character at San Diego Comic-Con.
On Saturday, July 25, the Deadpool star went undercover at the conference as his sword-bearing Marvel superhero, posing with fans with his character’s mask obscuring his face. In a post one day later on X, Reynolds looked back on the “gift” of experiencing SDCC among fans.
“The fans got Deadpool off the ground so many years ago,” Reynolds wrote in a post on July 26. “Yesterday, 10 years after the first film and exactly 2 years after Deadpool & Wolverine, I felt so lucky to be on the #SDCC floor with everyone whose unapologetic devotion brings so much joy to this world.”
Included in the post was a video documenting Reynolds’ incognito quest. That morning, he had his Deadpool gray suit laid out and ready to wear, and arrived at SDCC with his identity completely concealed. There, he posed with fans, who unknowingly took home a photo with the real star of the Marvel film.
Reynolds could be seen joking around with a larger-than-life Olaf from Frozen, posing with a fan donning a Deadpool jersey, and swinging a faux sword with another Deadpool cosplayer, who donned the character’s original red suit. In a reply to his original post, Reynolds also revealed that he met the “actual Sergeant Slaughter,” a.k.a. Robert Remus, the voice actor behind G.I. Joe: The Movie.
Getting to experience SDCC freely, thanks to his Deadpool suit, was especially valuable to him, Reynolds wrote.

Reynolds later made an appearance at Hall H as part of Marvel’s presentation for Avengers: Doomsday, of which his character is rumored to be a part, but is yet unconfirmed.
Reynolds’ Deadpool last appeared in 2024 in Deadpool & Wolverine, in which he starred opposite his close friend Hugh Jackman. The film ultimately earned more than $1.3 billion in worldwide box office sales.
