Coronation Street actress Sally Dynevor has been inundated with messages of support after expressing her ‘gratitude’ for the encouragement she’s received during a significant personal endeavour.

The actress, famous for portraying Weatherfield favourite Sally Metcalfe – formerly Webster – on the ITV drama, announced earlier this year that she and her son Sam were gearing up for an enormous challenge.

Taking to Instagram, Sally revealed: “My son Sam and I have some news! We will be climbing the world’s tallest freestanding mountain, Kilimanjaro in September for @preventbreastcancer.

“It will be 16 years since my diagnosis. Like so many other families, we never thought this would happen to us, but it did. Help us break the cycle of breast cancer. Anything you can donate would go directly to @preventbreastcancer. JustGiving link in bio.”

The charitable endeavour follows Sally’s own battle with breast cancer, reports the Manchester Evening News.

She received her diagnosis in November 2009, whilst simultaneously filming devastating Corrie storylines that saw her beloved character struggling with news of the identical illness.

This November marks 16 years since the 62 year old received her diagnosis, and during the same month, Sally will be accompanied by her son for the aforementioned expedition up the inactive Tanzanian volcano, which stands as the tallest free-standing mountain above sea level globally, reaching 5,895m. Sally has taken to social media to express her gratitude to those who have contributed to her fundraiser and shown their support thus far.

She also posted pictures of her late friend Morag Sillar, a Scottish actress who tragically lost her life to breast cancer, and reflected on her past challenges, stating: “The inspiration for these challenges will always be our friend Morag Sillar. Taken far too soon.”

She went on to say: “I’m so grateful to the amazing cast and crew and to everyone who has donated. Your encouragement means the world. Every bit of support will keep us climbing higher for @preventbreastcancer THANK YOU.”

Fans were quick to rally around Sally. Ona fan praised: “A class act. Wonderful actress. You must miss her dreadfully.”

Another chimed in: “You are doing a fantastic challenge Sally and me being a survivor of breast cancer am eternally grateful for all your efforts. You yourself are an inspiration to us all.” A third added: “This is beautiful…what an inspiration.”

The mother-son duo had set out to raise £7,000 for Prevent Breast Cancer and have already exceeded their goal with 155 donations, at the time of writing.

Among the donors are Sally’s Corrie co-star, David Neilson and his wife Jane, who generously donated £200, leaving a message on the Just Giving page that read: “Good luck you two, and well done!”.

Meanwhile, Tony Maudsley, known for his role as George Shuttleworth, showed his support by donating and commenting: “The Dynevor’s are thrashing Kilimanjaro! ! Good luck, you two!” Sally’s loving husband, Tim, also chimed in with praise, stating: “This is fabulous, so immensely proud of you both raising money for such a brilliant cause.”
