Terra State Community College and the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library & Museums are teaming up to present “Sounds of Sandusky County,” an exhibit that explores the region’s 1960s music scene through rare memorabilia, recordings and artifacts, according to a community announcement.

The grand opening event is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums in Fremont. The event is free and open to the public, though organizers are requesting RSVPs via [email protected].

According to the announcement, the evening will feature a presentation by J. Brennan Willis, director of music and technology at Terra State Community College, who is set to share newly discovered jazz recordings from Toledo musician Cliff Murphy, stories about local music promoter Bob Brown and never-before-seen footage of Fremont in the 1940s.

The exhibit is curated by Willis in collaboration with Terra State’s Music Program, which is marking its 25th anniversary. According to the announcement, the exhibit aims to show how Sandusky County has played a vital, sometimes unexpected, role in shaping American music.
