Santa Monica is now home to SoCal’s first “Entertainment Zone,” where tourists and residents can go on weekends to enjoy alcoholic drinks outdoors while walking around the Third Street Promenade.
The event soft launches this weekend from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and will be open every weekend thereafter. The Entertainment Zone will span from blocks 1200 to 1400, from Wilshire Boulevard to Broadway.
“Santa Monica is continuing to reimagine the experience on the Third Street Promenade,” Mayor Lana Negrete said in a statement by the City of Santa Monica.
As of right now, participating businesses include 1212, Barney’s Beanery, Cabo Cantina, Casa Martin, Holey Moley and Pickle Pop.
“We’re just opening right now,” said Theresa Nguyen, a general manager at 1212, a New American restaurant on the promenade. “But, we’re expecting it to be a lot of fun!”
Participants will be required to wear city-approved wristbands given by the licensed businesses, which are only valid within the Entertainment Zone. Any outdoor drinking outside of the zone is prohibited. The city will increase security starting around 10 p.m. to promote safe and responsible drinking.
The city approved the zone in May to bring back business to the Third Street Promenade after a decline in customers following the COVID-19 lockdowns.
