Who is Saoirse Ronan’s husband Jack Lowden?

Jack Lowden, 35, is a Scottish actor best known for his role as MI5 agent River Cartwright in the Apple TV+ drama Slow Horses.

He has been romantically involved with Ronan since 2018 after they starred together in the historical drama Mary Queen of Scots, which also featured Barbie star Margot Robbie. Lowden has also appeared in the BBC drama series The Gold, portrayed war poet Siegfried Sassoon in Benediction, and recently starred in the action film Tornado.

The Slow Horses actor is set to take on the role of Mr Darcy in Netflix’s Pride and Prejudice adaptation, penned by Dolly Alderton, starring alongside Emma Corrin as Elizabeth Bennet. Back in July 2024, The Irish Independent confirmed that Ronan and Lowden had married in Edinburgh.

Following this, the pair are now thought to have discreetly welcomed their first baby recently after images of them with a stroller were captured by the Sun. The Daily Mail has stated that Pride and Prejudice filming has decelerated after Lowden became a new father.

“But the show must go on, and that means the producers have had to keep on filming and that has meant they have had to have some stand-ins for Mr Darcy,” a source has shared.

“So it has been a case of lookalikes for Jack so that there is no disruption.”

Ronan’s movie career continues to flourish despite her thrilling baby news. Her upcoming project, Bad Apples, just had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), although a broader theatrical release date remains unannounced.

Adapted from writer Rasmus Andersson’s Swedish-language novel De Oonskade, The Little Women actress plays a British educator named Maria who resorts to extreme measures during a conflict with one of her pupils.

The official plot summary for the movie states: “Maria is a teacher finding her class of ten year-olds disrupted by one unruly pupil.”

Limited details about the production are currently available since no promotional trailer has been released, but it has garnered positive critical reception from TIFF.

IndieWire praised it as a “deliciously dark comedy about the pressures of a broken school system” in their enthusiastic review.

Meanwhile, The Wrap notes: “[Director Jonatan] Etzler wields the film’s urgent satire like a scalpel, precisely cutting away at all the lies we so easily find ourselves telling that mask the darker truths about who we are.”

Following Bad Apples, Ronan is set to appear alongside Austin Butler in the 2000s-era romantic drama Deep Cuts, which A24 is producing under the direction of The Iron Claw’s Sean Durkin.
