Sara Waisglass admits ‘biggest fear’ playing Max in ‘Ginny and Georgia’
For Sara Waisglass How to Lose a Popularity Contest, isn’t just a new role, it is an opportunity to show she is more than her fan favourite role Max Baker from Ginny & Georgia.
During her chat with Us Weekly, while promoting her new film, the 27-year-old Canadian actress opened up about her fears, saying, “One of my biggest fears is that I can only play Maxine Baker, because, like, my energy does bleed into my performances.”
“And something I was very worried about was, in this movie, is it just going to be Max in a different film?”
In Tubi’s How to Lose a Popularity Contest, Sara stars as Ellie, a high achieving student who reluctantly partners with her rival Nate, played by Chase Hudson, on a plan to reclaim their exes by launching his student body president campaign.
Complicating things further, Nate calls Ellie “Max,” short for maxi pad, a nickname born from an embarrassing classroom incident years earlier.
Sarah also admitted she has referred to Max Baker as “maxi-pad” on the Ginny & Georgia set since season one, which only deepens the irony.
To make her new role feel like a completely different “Max” from her Netflix character, the Degrassi The Next Generation actress said she worked “really hard” to find details, specific traits that made her character unique.
“I was very intentional about silly things like posture and tone of voice,” she shared. “So it was the same energy, just a different execution, I guess. And I’m hoping that that played out right.”
