Sarah “Fergie” Ferguson and her disgraced ex-husband Prince Andrew are currently in a world of controversy following the news that they both lost their royal titles due to their association with Jeffrey Epstein.
However, Fergie, 66, may turn on the former Duke of York, 65, when it comes to their cash flow.
A source told the Daily Mail on Monday, October 20 that Fergie could leave Andrew high and dry to “save her own skin.”
“Her fate is closely tied to that of her ex-husband,” the source noted.
The ex-couple currently reside together at the Windsor residence, the Royal Lodge, and their bills will bring a great amount of “tension.”
“Her career as a children’s author looks to be going down the pan. How can someone who stayed friends with and was bankrolled by a pedophile be taken seriously as a voice for children? Other commercial opportunities may be lost because of the scandal,” the source went on.
On Friday, October 17 it was announced that Andrew would be giving up his royal titles. As a result, Fergie can no longer call herself the Duchess of York, however their daughters Beatrice and Eugenie, will remain princesses.
Andrew and Fergie’s friendship with Epstein, who was convicted of sex crimes and who died in 2019, has always been a topic of scandal — as well as Andrew’s relationship with late victim Virginia Giuffre.
In a 2019 Newsnight interview with Emily Maitlis, Andrew discussed his allyship with Epstein, saying: “We were friends because of other people and I had a lot of opportunity to go to the United States but I didn’t have much time with him,” the royal claimed, adding that Epstein “had the most extraordinary ability to bring extraordinary people together.”
Last month, Fergie was let go from several charities after an email she sent to Epstein from 2011 was released, according to the BBC. The note allegedly said: “You have always been a steadfast, generous and supreme friend to me and my family.”
A spokesperson for Fergie shared a statement to People addressing the reports about her email to Epstein: “The Duchess spoke of her regret about her association with Epstein many years ago, and as they have always been her first thoughts are with his victims. Like many people, she was taken in by his lies. As soon as she was aware of the extent of the allegations against him, she not only cut off contact but condemned him publicly, to the extent that he then threatened to sue her for defamation for associating him with paedophilia. She does not resile from anything she said then. This email was sent in the context of advice the Duchess was given to try to assuage Epstein and his threats.”
“It’s likely that [Fergie] and Andrew will need each other more than ever,” the source told the Daily Mail. “But it may depend on their individual finances.”
The pair, who married in 1986 and divorced a decade later. The source also alleged that their children might need to “bail them out” financially if more things go haywire.
Royal biographer Andrew Lownie also claimed to the Daily Mail that there could be many more bombshells that will come to light about Andrew and Fergie.
“This is only the beginning for the York family,” the author said.
