Escaper - Sarah Kinsley

The always-ethereal Sarah Kinsley appeared at 2025’s All Things Go Festival, celebrating an important milestone in the process.
“Last Time We Never Meet Again” – Sarah Kinsley

She’s one of the most exciting and creative songwriters in pop music – and she’s just getting started.

Sarah Kinsley is best known by casual listeners for her TikTok viral song “The King,” released in 2021. Her solo project morphed into something unique – showcasing both her background in classical music and her music theory expertise from Columbia University in clever pop songs.

Sometimes she’ll record vocals with a contact microphone, which is typically used on solid percussive objects. For her debut album, she recorded everything from glass bowls to an ondes martenot.

She even caught the attention of Chappell Roan, who listed Sarah Kinsley among artists that “deserve more love and a bigger platform.” (Kinsley posted a cheeky tweet about being your favorite artist’s favorite artist’s favorite artist shortly after.)

This year, Sarah Kinsley became a featured artist at All Things Go, a historically female-fronted music festival, alongside Doechii, Clairo, The Marías, and other award-winning performers. Her performance included a cameo from the contact microphone, as well as a setlist mixed with old and new songs.

Ahead of All Things Go, Kinsley dropped her single “Fleeting” and teased her new album aesthetic, complete with a punchy “Running Up That Hill”-esque drum machine and signature synth.

“’Fleeting’ is my catharsis: An anthem dedicated to the flood of change,” Sarah Kinsley said via press release.

“It is my homage to the transience of what it means to be alive: who am I if every moment is fleeting.”

“You can cut your hair all you want,
but it won’t stop the feeling.
The answer is always,
the answer is always fleeting.”
– “Fleeting,” Sarah Kinsley

“Fleeting,” overall, sounds very ’80s-inspired and cathartic, which feels like a natural progression for Kinsley’s innovative pop originals. Taking the stage at New York City’s Forest Hills Stadium, she explained that this was the first time she was performing the single live – the cherry on top to an already exciting day.

The full band jammed out during the outro for “The Giver.” Of course, the crowd cheered after hearing the opening notes to “The King.” They danced along to “Oh No,” with Kinsley pointing out dancing fans in the back.

Accounting for the success of “The King” and the stamp of approval from Chappell Roan, Sarah Kinsley is clawing her way to the spotlight – and this new song might just propel her to the next level of stardom.
