Looking for a last-minute Christmas gift for that music lover in your life? Don’t wait, because tickets go on sale today for the Savannah Music Festival. The festival returns in its 37th year from March 25 to April 5.
SMF tickets start at $37 and can be purchased online at savannahmusicfestival.com. A new addition to the experience is a limited release of VIP Weekender Wristbands, offering eventgoers two and three-day general admission access to concerts on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays each weekend. These are only on sale until Jan. 31.
SMF has also added additional venues at Neises Auditorium at Telfair Museums’ Jepson Center, Regina Coeli Hall at The Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist, and the Oglethorpe Ballroom at The Desoto Savannah, in addition to four concerts at Victory North.
The schedule, which went live on Nov. 23, highlights theater shows by artists like Pat Metheny and Side-Eye III, a jazz guitarist and composer; Lucius, an acclaimed indie band; two-time Grammy award winning Old Crow Medicine Show; Larkin Poe, an American Roots band with a blend of Southern rock, blues and Americana; The Robert Cray Band, a unique groove of soul, R&B, gospel, blues and rock&roll; and two-time Grammy nominee and bluegrass musician Sierra Hull and many many more.
For those who love Broadway, a collaboration with the American Traditions Vocal Collection will feature four of Broadway’s brightest stars for an evening of popular musical selections.
There will be another collaborative concert featuring soloist Phillip Dukes with the Savannah Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus.
More global roots music will be featured at SMF next year, including Brazilian musicians Alessandro Penezzi and Mike Marshall, as well as Ivory Coast Afropop Dobet Gnahore, Irish musicians, a Quebecois band and a Moroccan collective Saha Gnwa.
The festival opens Wednesday night, March 25 with performances at 6 p.m. by Stefon Harris and Blackout at Kehoe Iron Works playing contemporary jazz, and a piano recital at Trinity United Methodist Church by Jonathon Mamora.
“This 12-day celebration of live music will be a joyous one, featuring more than 20 SMF debuts alongside notable artists returning with new projects. We are honored to present some of the world’s greatest in roots music, classical, and jazz,” said Artistic Director Ryan McMaken.
The Explorer Pass program is also back for its third year to offer all students in Savannah and Chatham County plus a family member or chaperone general admission tickets to performances, not including shows at Victory North.
