If ER was too violent for you, Scrubs tackled the lighter side of hospital life. Running for nine seasons (eight on NBC, with a final, quasi-spinoff season on ABC) and 182 episodes, Scrubs starred Zach Braff and Donald Faison as doctors and best pals, JD and Turk.
Now, fifteen years later, Scrubs is coming back with a new revival from original creator Bill Lawrence. Season 10 of Scrubs is on the way at ABC, and to celebrate the first table read of the new show, ABC has released a photo of the reunited main cast. The photo contains Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, Zach Braff, Judy Reyes, John C. McGinley, and series creator Bill Lawrence.
Details are scarce on the Scrubs revival, which has yet to be given a release window by ABC, but it’s a safe bet to suggest it will follow the continuing adventures of JD, Turk, and the rest of the gang as they help to usher in a new generation of young doctors. On a personal level, I’d like to see some kind of acknowledgement of the show’s divisive final season, “Scrubs: Med School.” I know that season isn’t as beloved as the rest of the show, but it was also my introduction to the series, and I remember it fondly.
Lawrence’s subsequent sitcom, Cougar Town (one of my personal favorites), also contained many nods to Scrubs and even had some actors reprise their roles from the earlier show. It would be great to see the revived Scrubs return the favor and find a way to acknowledge Cougar Town in some way… But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Let’s take things one sitcom revival at a time.
