The gothic style trend took the MTV VMAs 2025 red carpet by storm on Sunday in New York City. A bevy of high-profile guests like Ashlee Simpson, Lola Young and more styled the trend for the awards show, marking the latest evolution of the style aesthetic.
Gothic looks have been trending with the rise of Y2K styles, the dark glamour trend and the arrival of Netflix’s “Wednesday.” Jenna Ortega is among the most significant stars to style gothic looks, embracing a methodical dressing approach to her “Wednesday” Season Two promotional tour.
Dark glamour, on the other hand, was seen on several red carpets in 2024 and continued to be styled by celebrities in 2025. More recently, McQueen dipped into the goth trend with the label’s fall 2025 campaign.
The MTV VMAs 2025 follows suit with those trends, featuring a red carpet full of black lace, monochrome looks, plunging necklines, opera gloves and more variations on the gothic trend.
