The Sensational League, a new 7v7 professional women’s football competition, will launch in April 2026 across the Nordic region before expanding into the UK and United States.
Positioned as a global sports entertainment property, the league aims to reframe women’s football as a commercially scalable platform driven by competition, culture, and community engagement.
Established by Saga Sports Group founders, Bettina Kuperman and Majken Gilmartin, the Sensational League has secured investment backing from entrepreneur René Rechtman, founder of Moonbug Entertainment—known for building digital-first global IP networks such as CoComelon and Blippi.
CEO and Co-Founder, Kuperman, said the league is designed to reshape how women’s football is valued commercially.
“We’re building a new ecosystem for women’s football designed for the network economy where players, fans, brands and cities are co-creators.”
“We’re proving that women’s football can generate real commercial value on its own terms,” Kuperman said.
The league’s strategy is rooted in tapping into women’s growing influence in the global consumer economy. Despite women driving an estimated 75% of global household purchasing decisions and representing more than 700 million active sports fans worldwide, women’s sport currently accounts for less than 5% of total sports sponsorship investment.
Sharing how the Sensational League aligns with the next phase of sports entertainment growth, Rechtman, added: “It has everything investors look for: a proven team, scalable model, and perfect timing. Women’s sports is the next growth engine for the industry.”
Co-Founder and COO, Gilmartin, said the format has been deliberately shaped around how women engage with sport.
“The future of women’s sports lies in design, not imitation. This league is built around how women compete, connect and consume.”
The league will feature paid athletes across eight teams, led by athlete-influencer captains, with matches played in a fast-paced 7v7 format suited to broadcast and streaming audiences.
The competition model includes a unique scoring framework that rewards on-field performance, fan engagement, and community impact. Six festival-style match days and a season-ending finals event will integrate football, music, and lifestyle experiences.
Further announcements regarding host cities, captains, brand partnerships, advisory board members, media rights, and prize structures will follow ahead of the inaugural 2026 season.
