Shaboozey is continuing to make his mark in the music industry while helping others do the same, now by launching his own record label.
The “Tipsy” singer announced American Dogwood in collaboration with his label EMPIRE. The new label is set to highlight genre-bending talent and push boundaries as Shaboozey has done with his own career.
The Nigerian-American singer will play a lead role in discovering new talent and mentoring artists, working alongside longtime collaborators Jared Cotter and Abas Pauti, while EMPIRE supports the label’s global outreach.
The label has already begun its work, signing Nashville-based artist Kevin Powers as its first act. Originally from Raleigh, North Carolina, Powers has already begun establishing himself as a genre-bending force in the industry, best known for his viral hits “Walked In” and “How You Been?”
“I couldn’t be more excited to join the American Dogwood family,” Powers said in a news release. Powers has also collaborated with Shaboozey in the past, co-writing his song with Jelly Roll “Amen.”
Shaboozey posted on Instagram about his new venture.
“American Dogwood is a tribute to where we come from, and to the artists, storytellers, and creators who make this life remarkable,” Shaboozey wrote. “Our mission is to nurture the next generation of voices and to give them a place to grow, connect, and create. This is the beginning of a new chapter — one I hope always feels like home.”
Of course, Shaboozey was featured on Beyoncé’s eighth studio alum “Cowboy Carter,” released March 2024. The same year, Shaboozey made history with his own smash hit “Tipsy (A Bar Song).” The record-breaking tune became the longest leading No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart by a solo artist.
Shaboozey also made history as the first Black male artist to top that chart and Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart simultaneously, amongst many other accolades and firsts. This year he received a total of five Grammy nominations, including best new artist.
To kick off the new label, Shaboozey and Kevin Powers are teaming up for the single “Move On,” which is set to be released Sept. 19.
