SHEBOYGAN – A new family entertainment center could open near Piggly Wiggly on the city’s north side.
PowerPlay Arena received City Plan Commission approval Sept. 9 for a conditional use permit to open at 2927 N. 15th St. The recreational center would have virtual reality gaming stations and a racing simulator, with plans to add other activities like indoor laser tag in the future, according to the application.
PowerPlay Arena could also offer group packages for birthday parties, school outings, church groups and team-building.
Olufemi Tomori, owner of Inflatable Parties, which offers rentable bounce houses, obstacle courses and water slides, hopes his new business will create more opportunities for play and social interaction.
The desired space is a vacant 4,000-square-foot storefront in the Northgate Shopping Center, which also has a Vision Mart, H&R Block and nail salon.
PowerPlay Arena could be open from noon to 8 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends. Four to six part-time employees could be hired.
Tomori estimates the center could draw 30 to 50 weekday visitors and 60 to 100 weekend visitors, according to the application.
