Sheriff Country is making a scene every Friday night on CBS—and we totally understand why folks love it.
A new spinoff of the hit series Fire Country, the CBS drama follows Sheriff Mickey Fox (Morena Baccarin) as she solves criminal cases in Edgewater, California. Mickey leads a team of police officers while also getting involved with other first responders in the area (hello, Station 42!). Parts of her past come to light as she deals with the unique characters living in the area.
Even though there have only been a few episodes of Sheriff Country, fans may already be questioning what’s to come on the series. And given that Sheriff Country and Fire Country are both based in Edgewater, some may be curious about where Sheriff Country is filmed. Well, prepare yourself—we found some major clues!
Is Edgewater a real place?
Fans of Fire Country already know that Edgewater, California, is technically not a real place. And just like its predecessor, Sheriff Country takes its scenic inspiration from the small towns in Northern California that are often impacted by wildfires.
Where is Sheriff Country filmed?
Even though Edgewater is a fictional place, one would think Sheriff Country would film in California. But surprisingly, the CBS drama doesn’t actually shoot in the state where the show is set. Instead, Sheriff Country heads north to film in various cities in Ontario, Canada.
Multiple reports (including the show’s official IMDB page) indicate the show shoots in the Greater Toronto area. Those who know the region well would recognize Edgewater’s downtown area as being Main Street in the suburb of Milton (about 25 miles outside of Toronto). Mickey’s home is in the town of Brampton, about 30 miles outside the main city.

Why is Sheriff Country being filmed in Canada?
While CBS hasn’t given an exact reason for why Sheriff Country films in Canada, the country is often referred to as “Hollywood North.” With all the projects that shoot in both Toronto and Vancouver (where, coincidentally, Fire Country is shot), these locations can often be changed to look like well-known American cities (like New York or Los Angeles).
If that’s not enough, reports have noted that there are strong incentives for shows like Sheriff Country to film in Canada. There, they can film at a lower rate, allowing CBS to get the shots it wants at a lower price.
