Joshua Allen, the Season 4 winner of the dance competition series “So You Think You Can Dance,” has died at age 36, reports say.
The dancer died Tuesday in Fort Worth, Texas, according to the Los Angeles Times and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. TMZ was first to report the news. According to the online database for the Tarrant County Medical Examiner in Texas, Joshua Demon Allen died at a Fort Worth, Texas, hospital emergency room. His cause of death is pending.
USA TODAY has reached out to Allen’s rep, the Fort Worth Police Department and the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office in Texas.
The hip-hop dancer beat out 19 other contestants to win “So You Think You Can Dance” Season 4, which aired in the summer of 2008. The season’s runner-up was one-time judge Stephen “tWitch” Boss, who died by suicide in 2022.
Allen’s dancing put him on the big screen in the films “Step Up 3D” in 2010 and the 2011 remake of “Footloose.” He also made an appearance in FX’s “American Horror Story” Season 1 in 2011.
Allen’s rep, Christina Price, told the LA Times in a statement that “what stood out most about Joshua was his heart.”
“He had a natural gift for movement — no formal training, yet he could watch something once and his body just knew how to do it,” she added. “Beyond his talent, he gave back, teaching kids in Texas through dance workshops.”
