Song of The Week: 5 Buoyant Songs for Winter’s Last Gasp
New York has had a long, cold winter of never-ending snow. Our critic Jon Caramanica is coping with the last of the season by taking you sledding and sharing these five ebullient songs.
Here’s five songs that get me through a snow day. “Tell Me What You Want” (UNIIQU3 remix). — By who? — By Sasha Keable. Turns out every soul song with a lot of blank space in it just needs to be filled to the brim with Jersey club stomps and squeaks. “Sicko” by Mandy, Indiana featuring billy woods. It’s the intersection of industrial bounce and hyperkinetic bars. Call it “Life Grips.” Dylan Brady, “Needle Guy.” What happens when you thread the line between hyperpop 1.0 and Fatboy Slim? “Opalite” (Chris Lake remix) by Taylor Swift. You know this song, which is why the tension between when you’re expecting it to drop and when it actually drops is so good. “Fido” by deathtoricky. The sound of when the clouds finally part, and that first dapple of sunshine hits your face.
