Sophie Winkleman has discussed the “brutal” death of the late Thomas Kingston last year. Thomas took his own life in February 2024, which was confirmed via the inquest into his death in December.
The 45-year-old, who is married to Lord Frederick Windsor, has discussed how the family reacted to the news of his death, her husband’s new role and their support to Lady Gabriella Windsor. In a new interview, Sophie said: “That was a big tragedy in our lives, and we all miss him every day.”
Discussing her two young daughters, she also told The Times: “My girls adored him. It’s brutal. We’re still in touch with all his family and it feels like he’s still with us.”
Sophie also revealed that her husband had now started working for the charity, James’ Place, which helps men dealing with suicidal thoughts.
She added: “It’s not a positive to come out of it at all, but it makes you so much more aware that the exterior of someone can be very different from what’s going on inside.”
Katy Skerrett, senior coroner for Gloucestershire, revealed via the inquest last year that Thomas died from adverse effects of medication that he had recently started.
She said: “The evidence of his wife, family and business partner all supports his lack of suicidal intent. He was suffering adverse effects of medication he had recently been prescribed.”
Ahead of the one-year anniversary of Thomas’ death, his parents, Jill and Martin, appeared on Radio 4.
Recalling the “cold February day”, Jill shared that they had spent time having lunch and enjoyed a relaxing afternoon.
Martin then recalled how Jill then couldn’t find Thomas, before adding, “I would have difficulty explaining to you what it was like without crying”.
