Prince Harry and Meghan Markle unveiled their newborn son’s name shortly after his birth in May 2019, with royal enthusiasts eagerly anticipating details about the couple’s firstborn.
Unlike many royal babies before him, the couple chose a charming name that hadn’t been previously used within the royal family.
Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, now six years old, was born in the UK but currently lives in the US with his parents and his four-year-old sister, Princess Lilibet.
It is widely believed that Harry named his son after a significant figure from his military career.
The 41-year-old served alongside Major Tom Archer-Burton in the army, who was often referred to by his nickname “Archie.”
Harry has previously acknowledged Archie for rescuing his career, particularly when he was informed he couldn’t serve in Iraq in 2007.
He then persuaded Harry to remain in the military, even assisting in keeping the news of his deployment in the combat zone away from public attention, reports the Express.
A source told The Sun days after Prince Archie’s birth, “It’s well known in Army circles, and Archie’s inner circle, that baby Archie is a nod to him.
“The two men have stayed in regular contact, and Archie has met most of Harry’s family including Meghan.”
The insider added, “It’s an incredible honor, but Archie is an incredibly modest guy, and won’t be making a big deal of it.”
Two years after Archie’s birth, Meghan and Harry welcomed their second child, a daughter, in 2021.
Lilibet, a nickname used by the late Queen Elizabeth II, was chosen to honor her cherished great-grandmother.
Following a recent outing for their Archewell Foundation, Harry and Meghan shared some new photos of their children – and fans can’t believe how much they have grown up.
The Sussexes and their children visited Our Big Kitchen in Los Angeles, a community-operated, non-denominational facility that provides meals for those in need across the city.
Archie and Lilibet both donned caps featuring the Our Big Kitchen branding and were photographed enthusiastically participating in meal preparation activities.
Meghan and Harry radiated joy throughout the visit, visibly thrilled to have their youngsters accompanying them during their charitable work.
Writing on X, one admirer noted, “I love that Archie and Lili are growing up with the biggest gift we can ask for. The gift of choice.
“Their lives are not predetermined, and they are not pigeon-holed like their dads. One isn’t being disparaged to prop the other. Both will be able to walk through life choosing their own path.”
Another expressed appreciation for being “volunteering as a family and just doing what they do to put some good out in the world.”
A third enthusiast declared, “Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet are volunteering for the holidays! #showupdogood.”
