Speed take home $80,000 New South Wales Music Prize for ‘ONLY ONE MODE’

Australian hardcore crew Speed have been awarded the New South Wales Music Prize, taking home $80,000 AUD (about $52,000 USD). The government-backed prize supports local artists, with Speed winning for the “significant impact” of their latest album, ONLY ONE MODE.

Ahead of accepting the award tonight, November 24th, at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney, the band said:

Respectfully, our culture has never been a game nor a competition. But we are honoured to receive this recognition and see this as acknowledgment of the values cultivated by the passionate souls around us.
