Director Spike Lee hopes to make a movie with Timothée Chalamet one day.
The Do the Right Thing director has had a conversation with the Call Me By Your Name star about collaborating on a film when the in-demand actor has some time in his schedule.
Lee made the revelation on The Bill Simmons Podcast when he was asked if there was any rivalry between him and the Oscar nominee over who is the biggest celebrity supporter of the New York Knicks basketball team.
“I feel Chalamet is on your corner a little bit, and I want to make sure you’re good, because he’s become the signature Knicks fan,” Simmons claimed, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “He’s kinda in your real estate. Have you hashed this out? What’s going on here?”
Insisting there was “no competition at all” between them, Lee revealed they were keen to work together someday.
“Look, he’s a good guy, he’s a real (Knicks) fan, he’s a great actor, and we’ve talked about doing a film together once his schedule clears up,” he said, before adding with a laugh, “The next four or five years.”
The Malcolm X director noted that their film collaboration will “have nothing to do with sports”.
They’re not likely to work together anytime soon because Chalamet is currently filming Dune: Part Three, after which he will begin promoting his sports comedy Marty Supreme.
He’s also preparing to reunite with his A Complete Unknown director James Mangold on the heist movie High Side.
As for Lee, he’s currently promoting his new crime movie, Highest 2 Lowest, starring Denzel Washington and Jeffrey Wright. The film will be released on Apple TV+ on 5 September after a limited theatrical run.
