One of the 1980s’ most enduring coming-of-age films is returning to the big screen in 2026.

Corey Feldman, Jerry O’Connell and Wil Wheaton recently announced five new dates for their ongoing ‘Stand By Me: The Film and Its Stars 40 Years Later Tour.’

At all shows, the co-stars screen the classic motion picture directed by the late Rob Reiner and then chat about the making of the movie and share behind-the-scenes stories.

“That’s right we [are] getting the boys back together,” Feldman, 54, announced on Instagram back in August.

Screenings are set to take place in Pittsburgh (March 13), Raleigh (March 15), Anaheim (March 27), Seattle (March 28) and Portland (March 29).

Told through flashback, Reiner’s film, which is based on Stephen King’s short story “The Body,” follows four friends — Gordie Lachance (Wil Wheaton), Chris Chambers (River Phoenix), Teddy Duchamp (Corey Feldman) and Vern Tessio (Jerry O’Connell) — who look for a lost dead body on Labor Day weekend 1959.

“‘Stand by Me,’ to me, is the one that meant the most to me,” Reiner told Piers Morgan in an interview. “I don’t know that it’s the best…but it’s the one that meant the most to me because it really is an extension of my personality and my sensibility. It has a mixture of humor and melancholy and emotion, and it’s something that is closest to me of all the films I’ve done.”

Upon release, critics hailed the movie as a “staple of youthful nostalgia” (Rolling Stone) and “the summer’s great gift” (Los Angeles Times). When all was said and done, “Stand By Me” was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay and competed for Best Dramatic Motion Picture and Best Director at the Golden Globes.

“The best part was watching it with a full audience, the crowd reactions can make an old movie feel new,” Instagram user Kylebeenyc wrote in a review of a recent screening. “…some movie screenings are good…Some not so much…But this one will be hard to top!”

Reiner and his wife Michelle both died at their home on Sunday, Dec. 14.

“Love you, Rob. Sincerely,” O’Connell noted on Instagram.

What have Corey Feldman, Jerry O’Connell and Wil Wheaton been up to?

Over the past few years, Feldman has been making the rounds on reality TV shows. In 2024, he appeared on the 11th season of “The Masked Singer;” this year, he dropped into ABC’s “Dancing With The Stars.”

Co-star Jerry O’Connell replaced Sharon Osbourne on CBS’ “The Talk” in 2021 and stayed on the show until its final episode in December 2024. At the same time, he hosted a single season of “Pictionary” on Fox and “The Real Love Boat” on CBS with his wife Rebecca Romjin. His most recent TV credits are Dan Harmon’s animated series “Krapopolis” and “Big Brother: Unlocked.”

Wil Wheaton has been equally active performing improv and sketch comedy, winning Celebrity Jeopardy, narrating audiobooks and appearing in the podcast series “Dungeon Masters.” He also lent his voice to eight episodes of “Star Trek: Prodigy” in 2024.

Rob Reiner

As noted above, Reiner and his wife Michelle died at their home on Dec. 14 in what is being called an apparent homicide.

A native New Yorker, Reiner was the son of 11-time Emmy winning writer, director and actor Carl Reiner. His mother Estelle acted and is most known for appearing in her son’s film “When Harry Met Sally” and uttering the now-immortal line “I’ll have what she’s having!” in response to Meg Ryan’s enthusiastic reaction to a turkey sandwich on club bread.

In addition to directing “Stand By Me” and “When Harry Met Sally,” Reiner also helmed “This Is Spinal Tap,” “The Princess Bride,” “Misery,” “A Few Good Men” and portrayed Archie Bunker’s foil Michael “Meathead” Stivic in “All In The Family.”

His obituary can be read here.
