The state visit is thought to be planned to last three days and is timed to coincide with America’s 250th anniversary celebration. Sir Keir has since appeared to downplay the visit by stating that it has not yet been confirmed.
His spokesperson said in a statement: “I think on this, I would just say that no state visit has been confirmed yet. It’s not something I want to get drawn on this morning.”
The Prime Minister is said to have called the US President on Sunday, with the discussion described as “not a rosy affair” by an official familiar with the talks.
As well as the work aspect of the visit, it has been reported that Harry is “keen” for the King to visit his home in California during the visit.
A source previously told The Mail on Sunday: “Harry has made it clear that he would love his dad to come and visit him and the family.

The King is known to share a close bond with Prince William‘s three children – Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and seven-year-old Prince Louis – and is said to be eager to get to know six-year-old Prince Archie and four-year-old Princess Lilibet.
Archie was born in the UK in 2019, but has spent very little time there since his family’s move to the US in 2020. Lilibet was born in California in 2021 and is believed to have visited the UK only once in 2022.
