Comedy icon Steve Martin has been forced to cancel his upcoming shows with fellow funnyman Martin Short at the last minute.
The 80-year-old Only Murders in the Building star was set to take the stage on Friday but had to deliver the devastating news that illness had forced them to postpone. The pair took to social media to announce that their The Dukes Of Funnytown! tour performance at The Dome in Virginia Beach had been scrapped.
They also pulled the plug on Saturday’s show at Richmond’s Allianz Amphitheater at the Riverfront, reports the Mirror. The cancellation comes after Steve shared a photo of a positive COVID-19 test.
He explained in the caption that the show simply couldn’t go on, reports the Mirror US.
“Dear Virginia Beach and Richmond. Sadly, I have some down with Covid. I can’t possibly do the show that you deserve,” he wrote. “So Marty and I must cancel tonight and tomorrow. But we will return under better circumstances [sad face emoji].”
At that time, Steve jokingly noted that Martin had shared a kiss with Maya Rudolph. “Maya had Covid. Marty has Covid. I wonder why? The SNL 50th Covid curse is real,” he joked.
Steve and Martin are stars of the popular Hulu series, Only Murders in the Building, which also features Selena Gomez. The show recently introduced a new guest star, sparking fan reactions.
Renée Zellweger made an appearance as Camila White, a powerful billionaire who the three main characters suspect was involved in the death of their doorman, Lester (Teddy Coluca).
Fans were thrilled, with one person posting on X, formerly known as Twitter, “renée zellweger gagged me with her exquisite acting and face card. ok maem, you may step on me and manipulate me please.
“Renée Zellweger is somehow the surprise delight for me this season on Only Murders In The Building,” another fan commented.
