Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 5 gets filming update
Showrunner Henry Alonso Myers confirmed that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 5 has entered production. The Paramount+ series, a spinoff of Star Trek: Discovery and the 11th installment in the franchise, has already finished filming Season 4, which is expected to release in 2026. Paramount+ renewed Season 5 in June 2025 as the show’s final outing, and it will feature six episodes.
Speaking to ScreenRant, Myers confirmed that production was moving quickly. When asked about the progress of Season 5, he explained, “I mean, it’s, it’s going very fast. We are right in the middle of it. We’re about to start shooting in a week or so.” Director Jordan Canning, who previously worked on the show, will return for Season 5.
Season 3 performed strongly, earning praise from critics and fans alike. The show holds a 94% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. With Season 4 already filmed and expected for release next year, the team has moved forward with Season 5 to keep the final chapter on schedule.
Strange New Worlds premiered in May 2022 and quickly established itself as a key title in the Star Trek universe. The series stars Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Number One, and Ethan Peck as Spock. Executive producers Alex Kurtzman, Akiva Goldsman, Jenny Lumet, and Henry Alonso Myers lead the production, with Rod Roddenberry also attached.
The start of Season 5’s filming signals a potential early 2027 release, closing out the planned five-season run. Paramount+ has not announced an official premiere date, but both Season 4 and Season 5 will conclude the story of Pike and the Enterprise crew.
