14 albums by New England musicians to listen to this summer

The Suede juggernaut continues to roll on with their amazing run of albums which rank up there with their early gems, plus more dates which now include a mammoth double headline mega venue tour with Manic Street Preachers, both bands at their ultimate peak coming this October. And to put the icing on the cake they treat us to a new tune and some rare cuts from the vaults. Read on…

Today, Platinum-selling, Mercury Prize-winning, NME God Like Genius-certified giants of British independent music Suede announce Antidepressants: Expanded. The deluxe version of their critically acclaimed tenth album is due for release on July 10th via BMG. Alongside today’s announcement, Suede have released a brand new song titled, ‘Emotionally Unavailable’. Listen here.

In addition to ‘Emotionally Unavailable’, Antidepressants: Expanded also features ‘Medication’, a pulsating new track previously unheard by UK audiences, as well as rarity tracks: ‘Dirty Looks’, ‘Sharpening Knives’ and ‘Overload’. The album also includes Antidepressants (Demos), 11 recordings of scratch tracks, demo takes and early mixes, giving fans the chance to hear how the rapturously received Antidepressants was made. The album will be released digitally and on 3CD.

“It seems to me that contemporary life has a kind of powder-keg feel,” says Suede frontman Brett Anderson. “A taut atmosphere, like there’s something explosive about to happen, a latent anger, a lurking darkness, a frustration that requires suppression. We are all striving for connection in a disconnected world.”

Antidepressants debuted at #2 in the Official UK Albums Chart and received top tier recognition in critics’ end of year lists, named by The Guardian, MOJO, Uncut Magazine, Record Collector, Louder Than War and more as an essential album of 2025.

The acclaim surrounding Suede shows no sign of slowing. Suede kicked off 2026 with a sold out UK headline tour, met with rave reviews across the board as the Observer confirmed Suede’s live show exudes “an infectious, age-defying energy and vulnerability… a band wearing their bleeding heart on their sleeve”. Following an acclaimed Dancing With The Europeans tour which saw the band play to some of the largest audiences of their career, Suede are currently touring in China and will perform at Summer Sonic in Japan this summer.

The Antidepressants sound has been widely recognised as charged with the unique power that defines the band’s live shows with MOJO describing the album as “a defiant, death-defying record – as much joy ride as memento mori.” Suede launched Antidepressants last year with Suede Takeover: a month-long residency at London’s Southbank Centre presenting the band’s live show in completely new ways. Greeting a sold out audience Brett Anderson said, “We are Suede. The anti-nostalgia band”. Five additional nights of performances and events celebrating the band’s restless creativity ensued. The London Standard said, “there is a serious intent to their work which is far from cosy, a drive to push themselves, and their listeners, into challenging territory … amid all the torrid times in England now it’s actually a relief to have them still excelling at the forefront of a counter-culture.”

Today also sees the announcement of the publication of ‘As One: Remaking Suede’ by Rodge Glass, published by New Modern in hardback on 27 August, rrp £26, 9781917923774

Written with the full co-operation of the famously private band, As One is an intimate and candid biography of Suede during the remarkable second act of their 35 year career. Award-winning writer Rodge Glass has been granted unprecedented access to the band at home, backstage, in rehearsal and in the studio, hearing a lost album and private home recordings written about for the first time in As One. Glass has been embedded with the band as they’ve recorded, toured and promoted their music over the past three years.

Suede recently announced a major co-headline UK arena tour for autumn 2026 alongside Manic Street Preachers. The dates kick off at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro on 28th October, travelling across some of the UK’s biggest cities and venues, including two nights at Cardiff’s Utilita Arena on 3rd and 4th November, before concluding with a special show at Bournemouth International Centre on 12th November. This co-headline arena tour marks the biggest collaboration to date for both legendary bands and offers a unique opportunity to experience their renowned live performances. A Plea From Louder Than War

Louder Than War is run by a small but dedicated independent team, and we rely on the small amount of money we generate to keep the site running smoothly. Any money we do get is not lining the pockets of oligarchs or mad-cap billionaires dictating what our journalists are allowed to think and write, or hungry shareholders. We know times are tough, and we want to continue bringing you news on the most interesting releases, the latest gigs and anything else that tickles our fancy. We are not driven by profit, just pure enthusiasm for a scene that each and every one of us is passionate about.

To us, music and culture are eveything, without them, our very souls shrivel and die. We do not charge artists for the exposure we give them and to many, what we do is absolutely vital. Subscribing to one of our paid tiers takes just a minute, and each sign-up makes a huge impact, helping to keep the flame of independent music burning! Please click the button below to help.
