We reported yesterday on the significant news of AI-music firm Suno’s first deal with a major label: Warner Music Group. Now a blog post from the startup has offered a more more details on its plans for WMG’s artists.
The two companies’ announcement had trailed new Suno models to be launched in 2026 based on its licensing deal with WMG – and by implication any other rightsholders who it reaches agreements with in the coming weeks and months.
“You’ll still be able to create original songs the way you love today. Our core experience remains focused on giving everyone access to powerful music creation,” Suno told its users in the blog post.
“This partnership enables us to build a new generation of Suno models using high-quality licensed music. These models will surpass even v5, the best music model the world has seen to date.”
Then it went into more detail about how WMG’s artists will fit into all this.
“We will be introducing content from WMG artists who opt in for the use of their names, images, likenesses, voices, and compositions to be used in new AI-generated music,” explained Suno.
“These will be new creation experiences from artists who do opt in, which will open up new revenue streams for them… and allow you to interact with them in new ways. You’ll be able to build around participating artists’ sounds and ensure they get compensated.”
As with UMG and WMG’s deals with rival GenAI firm Udio earlier this month, the important phrase there is “from artists who do opt in”.
It suggests that this will need to be an active decision made by those artists, rather than an opt-out system where they are included unless they say otherwise.
