We’re starting to get back to movies having to take a while after their theatrical release to get on streaming for free. Superman had a very quick release to streaming for fans willing to rent it due to the new season of Peacemaker tying into the movie.
For fans who don’t want to pay $19.99 to rent it on Prime Video, you don’t have to wait much longer to watch it. Director James Gunn announced that Superman will start streaming on HBO Max on Friday, September 19.
This puts the film on HBO Max just a little over two months after its theatrical release. The film ended up grossing $615 million at the box office, which is a great number, but probably not as high as many had hoped.

The film will find new life on streaming. Its message about hope and kindness seems to have resonated with people living in such a cynical time. Hopefully, now that it’ll be free on HBO Max, Superman can find an even wider audience, especially now that the sequel is already in the works.
It will also now be a lot easier for Peacemaker fans to watch the movie and see how it connects to the series.
