It’s well-known that Cavill was a devoted fan of the original Witcher novels and the highly acclaimed video game adaptation. The series has been under fire for not adhering closely to its source material. Beau DeMayo, a former producer and writer for the series, even alleged that some members of the writing team ‘actively disliked’ both Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels and CD Projekt Red’s interpretations. During a Q&A session about his work on the Marvel animated series X-Men 97, he disclosed: “I’ve been on show – namely Witcher – where some of the writers were not or actively disliked the books and games (even actively mocking the source material).”
He further stated: “It’s a recipe for disaster and bad morale. Fandom as a litmus test checks egos, and makes all the long nights worth it. You have to respect the work before you’re allowed to add to its legacy.”
