“Survivor 50” cast decides what challenge Jeff Probst should compete in next

Key Points

  • Jeff Probst accepted a dare from Jimmy Fallon to compete in a Survivor 50 challenge. It did not work out in his favor.

  • We asked the Survivor 50 players what challenge the host should do next.

  • The majority appear to want to watch their master of ceremonies suffer. PAYBACK!

Even with a Blood Moon, a $2 million coin flip, and a live finale mishap, perhaps the most surprising moment of Survivor 50 was when host Jeff Probst popped open a box and revealed that he was going to compete against the cast in a challenge, with a bag of rice on the line.

The contest was the classic “Get a Grip,” where players have to hold on to a handle connected to bucket containing 25 percent of pre-game body weight for as long as possible, and if Probst beat the five contestants the cast designated, then the tribe would not receive the rice.

Suffice it to say, things did not go well for the Hostmaster General, who went from a potential challenge beast to challenge least. He struggled from the get-go and did not come close to defeating any of his foes, but it was a fun moment nonetheless for the host, players, and viewers.

Which all begs the question: What challenge should Jeff Probst compete in next? We posed that very inquiry to Survivor 50 cast members, and here are their suggestions for an encore performance.

Exclusive video, interviews, breaking news, games, polls, and more!

I think the challenge that Jeff should do next is Last Gasp, and I would love to see him try and narrate that challenge while participating in it.

The next challenge Jeff Probst should do is the Sumo challenge. Bring that back and knock a big Jonathan Young or someone into the water or the mud.

The next challenge that Jeff Probst should do is that one we did in Kaoh Rong where you had to hold up the plates. Because that challenge lingers with your shoulders 10 years after you play it.

Well, first of all, Jeff’s gotta work on his grip strength, okay? And I wanna tell him that I was right there at Ponderosa. He could’ve asked me for some grip strength tips, okay? I was right there and he probably could’ve won if he’d come talk to me. So next, I wanna see him do the pole challenge. I think it’s called Get a Grip. I wanna see him do that because that’s just such a classic endurance challenge. I want him to experience the pain.

Anything that involves legs. We gotta see him do that leg one where you are on the pegs and you go to the smaller pegs because I’m really good at that one and I would love to not only see him do it, but compete against him.

Oh, that’s an easy one. He’s got to go all the way back to season 2 in Australia where we had the big bamboo stick across our backs with all the water buckets on it. I think Mike Skupin and I broke a record that the Dream Team had produced at that point. I’d love to see Probst with all those water buckets stacked up on his back. That’s the one he needs to do.

He’s got to jump off the thing, hit the thing, swim, do the balance beam through the water, swim to the next plank and then shoot the basketball or something. I want to see him swim and balance. Jeff, get in your undies!

I want to see Jeff in the Hot Pursuit challenge, where they would have to hold that snake and run around the track, but he’s the only one carrying his snake and there’s 10 Jonathans catching him.

Emily Flippen

I want Jeff to do all the challenges that cause the most physical pain, and, for me, the one that caused the most physical pain was holding yourself up on the wall with the little leg slits. So I really want Jeff to do that one because I think he’d drop out faster than he gives himself credit for.

Joe Hunter

First of all, I’d say anything with balance, because he loves doing that and I hate that. I would honestly say the next challenge he has to do is when we’re on the wall standing on the pegs with our legs out just so we can see how inconceivable… [pauses to acknowledge inconceivable reference] that last peg is. That’s what I would say. Do the peg challenge.

I think anything through the mud would probably be pretty good. I wouldn’t mind seeing Jeff going down through the mud.

Jonathan Young

Ooooh, that’s a hard one. I hope it’s something very strength-based because according to what happened last time, we might win again. So definitely strength-based, because Jeff might lose.

Oh, definitely Hanging Tough, where you wrap yourself around that pole. I bet he’d be really good at that.

Jeff should do the water challenge where we had to stand on the buoys. The one that I got taken back from me. I want to see how Jeff does in that challenge.
