Pop star Taylor Swift made a much-anticipated announcement on Good Morning America, revealing that a docuseries about her Era’s Tour will be available on Disney+. But ahead of the announcement, fans were left fuming due to delays caused by the president.
The revelation was made during the October 13 episode of GMA, where the hosts announced the new project set to release on December 12. They also shared that Swift smashed records with her song ‘The Fate of Ophelia’, racking up 31 million streams on Spotify and setting a new record for single-day streaming on the platform.
However, before the big reveal, the news was delayed as GMA was interrupted for over an hour by President Donald Trump‘s address in Israel following a ceasefire in Gaza, causing a stir among eager Swift fans. One fan tweeted, “The orange is going to delay the Taylor Swift announcement..SOMEONE please! ! !”
Another fan humorously commented, “Yeah… turns out that not even Taylor Swift can convince me to livestream GMA right now when it’s so far mainly focused on Trump,” while another joked, “*turns on gma to watch for taylor’s announcement and see trump instead*,” adding a puking emoji for effect.
“I swear if @GMA doesn’t air Taylor’s announcement because this dementia patient their network sucks up to is still rambling all the Swifties are gonna crash out,” another joked, making a nod to ABC’s recent controversy after suspending Jimmy Kimmel amid political tension following the death of far-right influencer Charlie Kirk.
During the podcast, Swift presented fans with a briefcase labeled “TS 12” and simply inquired, “Can I show you something?”
The record features 12 songs, opening with “The Fate of Ophelia,” a nod to the ill-fated Shakespeare heroine. Pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter also collaborates with Swift on the album’s title track. Swift once again teamed up with Max Martin and Shellback, whose contributions appeared on some of her earlier releases.
Swift also launched a limited-time Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, which screened October 3–5 in select theaters to debut her album. The 89-minute program offered fans a sneak peek at behind-the-scenes footage, lyric videos, Swift’s commentary, and the premiere of the “Fate of Ophelia” music video.
In the U.S., the new album sold approximately 2.7 million copies on its first day in both physical and digital formats, surpassing her previous release. It also shattered records for vinyl sales, with 1.2 million vinyl copies flying off the shelves in the first week.
Overseas, the UK mirrored these impressive results: the album clinched the top spot and set new standards for first-week performance.
Earlier in August, she confirmed what fans had been guessing for months: her engagement to Travis Kelce. The couple has embraced this chapter publicly, intertwining personal and artistic themes in her latest work.
Additionally, part of the album was written and recorded during the European leg of the Eras Tour in 2024, linking it directly to her touring life and the momentum she brought into this moment.
