HONOLULU (KHON2) — Taylor Swift’s latest release, Life of a Showgirl, arrives Friday, Oct. 3, with sparkle, scent and a surprise drop that caught even record stores off guard.
Jim Williams, manager of Hungry Ear Records in Kakaʻako, said his store is ready for the rush.

“We’re looking forward this Friday to the new Taylor Swift album coming out,” Williams said. “Life of a Showgirl, available Friday at Hungry Ear, only at independent stores and also on her website only.”
Fans can find an exclusive version of the vinyl album at Hungry Ear. The special edition features a glittery Portofino orange design and comes scented with notes of sweat and vanilla.
“So that’s something for collectors,” Williams said.
The exclusivity is part of the buzz. This version of Life of a Showgirl won’t be sold at big-box stores or other retailers.

“You can only get that at independent record stores like Hungry Ear and also on her website,” Williams said. “Any other stores where you might go to get it, you won’t get this specific version.”
For those who prefer CDs, the store will carry them too. “We’ll also have the CD available as well, which will have an exclusive poster within it,” Williams said.
The album rollout was kept tightly under wraps. Even stores had little notice before receiving their shipments.
“It was a last minute, even for the stores themselves,” Williams said. “Our orders, there’s a real tight time frame on getting the album into the stores. She works pretty secretively.”
Hungry Ear opens daily at 10 a.m.; and for this release, it’s first come, first served.
“We open at 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day,” Williams said. “Just come on by. We ordered quite a bit.”
