The Taskmaster star has revealed that a future celebrity contestant on the Channel 4 hit is an Academy Award winner
Taskmaster’s Alex Horne has let slip that an Academy Award winner has been added to the show’s roster. The presenter has been hard at work filming the 21st series of the popular Channel 4 programme, which starts in a few days.
He is also close to wrapping on season 22 of the game show. And it appears there are already plans for the series following that.
Discussing season 23, Alex told Radio Times: “I could give you a sneaky bit of information for the distant future. We have got an Oscar winner in a future series.”
However, Taskmaster fans will be left in suspense for now as Alex remained tight-lipped about the identity of the Oscar winner participating. With the 21st series starting this April, it is likely to be some time until fans find out.
The hit comedy panel show features a line-up of five celebrities. The contestants are typically comedians, who undertake odd tasks and challenges that test their creativity and quick thinking, reports the Mirror.
Over the years, there have been many quirky tasks for contestants on the show. They have had to take on bizarre quests like singing to dogs or filling egg cups with their own tears or attempting to get feathers into baths without touching them.
Alex is on hand to supervise their efforts to complete the challenges, which are then judged by the Taskmaster Greg Davies, who delivers the final verdict. Scores are handed out, and a Taskmaster winner is later crowned and presented with a trophy shaped like Greg.
Channel 4 has confirmed the stars participating in the upcoming 21st series. Comedian, actor and writer Amy Gledhill will be one of the celebs vying for the Taskmaster’s approval.
Award-winning writer, director, and broadcaster Armando Iannucci, who is known for shows such as The Thick of It, will be taking part. Presenter, broadcaster and star of Gavin and Stacey, Joanna Page, has also enlisted for the competition this year.
The Masked Singer and Celebrity Sabotage presenter Joel Dommett is also among the five names announced. Completing the cast is writer, actor and comedian Kumail Nanjiani.
“Each of these competitors will step forward with a healthy mix of respect, fear and a keen desire to lay claim to Greg’s golden head, struck in what is potentially 24-carat gold, and become the next Taskmaster Champion,” the broadcaster announced as the series 21 line-up was revealed.
The last series of Taskmaster was won by comedian Maisie Adam, while Rose Ayling-Ellis won the Taskmaster’s New Year Treat 2026.
Taskmaster returns on Thursday April 9 at 9pm on Channel 4 and previous seasons are available to watch on Channel 4 streaming.
