Taylor Sheridan is set to make a shock career move following the success of Yellowstone.
The 55-year-old writer and director, who co-created the major series as well as its prequels 1883 and 1923, is expected to leave Paramount and move to NBCUniversal after closing a long-term film and television deal with the company.
The five-year deal is set to begin on January 1, 2029, once Taylor’s contract with Paramount ends at the end of 2028.
The news was first shared by Puck. Taylor’s collaborator and producing partner David Glasser and his 101 Studios will also move to NBCUniversal, with a new contract beginning in early 2026, after his company fulfills its current obligations to Paramount, Deadline reports.
In addition to Yellowstone, Taylor also created the Sylvester Stallone-led franchise Tulsa King.
He has also worked on other programming such as Special Ops: Lioness and Mayor of Kingstown.
Back in 2023, Taylor told The Hollywood Reporter, “I spent the first 37 years of my life compromising.When I quit acting, I decided that I am going to tell my stories my way, period.
“If you don’t want me to tell them, fine. Give them back and I’ll find someone who does – or I won’t, and then I’ll read them in some freaking dinner theater. But I won’t compromise. There is no compromising,” he added.
Taylor has recently worked on Yellowstone spin-off, The Madison, which is expected to premiere sometime in late 2025 or early 2026.
Leading an all-star ensemble that features Suits’ Patrick J. Adams, Matthew Fox and Beau Garrett is Hollywood legend Michelle Pfeiffer.
Among multiple planned spin-offs, The Madison is anticipated to deliver another major win for Paramount+ after the Yellowstone prequels, 1883 and 1923.
According to Deadline, the streaming platform has huge confidence in producer Taylor, who was praised as the backbone of the service’s programming at a recent media gathering.
Paramount’s Chair of Direct-to-Consumer Cindy Holland declared, “On Paramount+ today, we have a really great foundation, which is the Taylor Sheridan universe.”
CEO David Ellison praised Sheridan as “a singular genius with a perfect track record.”
The Madison’s early renewal certainly reinforces assertions that Yellowstone stands as Paramount’s most lucrative franchise by far, even following Kevin Costner’s John Dutton’s exit from the original series.
The upcoming spin-off promises a fresh perspective on ranch life as the city-dwelling family takes on rural Montana, with many characters set to continue their journey.
