Taylor Swift is officially entering a new era.
In the early hours of Tuesday, Aug. 12, the Rhode Island homeowner announced her twelfth studio album, ‘The Life of a Showgirl.’ Swift confirmed the news in a teaser for “New Heights” – a podcast with her boyfriend Travis Kelce and his brother Jason Kelce – released at 12:12 a.m. ET on Aug. 12.
“This is my brand-new album, ‘The Life of a Showgirl,'” Swift says after pulling out a blurred-out green and orange album cover for her new project.
“TS12!” Travis adds excitedly while Jason can be heard screaming with excitement.
The announcement came hours after Taylor Nation, Swift’s in-house marketing team, posted an Instagram slideshow with 12 photos of Swift in orange during the Eras Tour, captioned “Thinking about when she said ‘See you next era…’ ❤️🔥.”
A mint green countdown clock against a glittery orange background later went up on Swift’s website, expiring at the time of the announcement. Swift has since changed her socials and website to the same mint green and orange theme, ushering in her new era with new colors and a whole lot of sparkles.
What to know about ‘The Life of a Showgirl’
U.S. singer and songwriter Taylor Alison Swift, also known as Taylor Swift, performs on stage at the Paris La Defense Arena as part of her The Eras Tour, in Nanterre, north-western France, on May 9, 2024.
So far, the only things confirmed about Swift’s new album are the title and the thematic colors – orange and mint green. More details are expected to be released during the full “New Heights” episode with Swift, which will be released Wednesday, Aug. 13 at 7 p.m.
However, in true Taylor Swift fashion, the singer left a trail of clues following the album announcement.
Shortly after the podcast announcement, Swift posted a new public playlist to her Spotify account that seemingly nods to the new album, complete with the singer’s new orange and mint green logo as the cover picture and the title “And, baby, that’s show business for you ❤️🔥.”
The playlist has 22 tracks, causing many fans to believe the new album will feature the same number of songs. On top of that, all of the songs in the playlist were produced by Max Martin and Shellback, a team that has produced some of Swift’s biggest hits like “Blank Space,” “Shake It Off” and “I Knew You Were Trouble.” Based on that, it seems that Swift is preparing for another big pop album full of hit singles, produced by Martin and Shellback.

When will ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ be released?
A release date for Swift’s twelfth album has not yet been announced. However, the album is currently available for preorder on Swift’s official website, available as a vinyl, cassette tape or CD.
Fans were quick to notice that the website states all albums will ship before Oct. 13, likely meaning ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ will be released before then.

Easter eggs for Taylor Swift’s 12th era
Swift has been hinting at “TS12” for many months now. The singer planted many Easter eggs into the Eras Tour, including an orange countdown screen and an orange door on the day she debuted “The Tortured Poets Department” segment at her Paris concert in April 2024. The first page of the official Eras Tour book has a picture of Swift performing in a sparkly orange bodysuit, next to a letter which says “See you next era…”.
Swift has also hidden many hints to the number 12 in recent social media posts. Back in March, she praised Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s new album, using 12 d’s in a caption on her Instagram story: “oh my godddddddddddd.”
Additionally, in the letter announcing the ownership of her masters, posted to her website on May 30, she had 12 i’s in “thiiiiiiiiiiiis.” The letter also contains the single numbers 4, 6 and 2, which add up to 12.
