Taylor Swift’s new album seemed to indirectly express what it’s like in the pop star’s relationship with her NFL star fiance, Travis Kelce, who she’s set to marry
Taylor Swift gives Swifties a glimpse into her romance with fiance Travis Kelce in her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, which dropped on midnight Friday.
The pop music superstar didn’t hold anything back as she delivered much vulnerability, and transparency on many of the songs on her 12th studio album. Even if Taylor didn’t specifically address who she was talking about in the songs on The Life of a Showgirl, there were some clues that seemed to make it clear on who she was speaking on. In the first track on the LP, The Fate of Ophelia, the Grammy-winning songstress sings about being saved from her loneliness by someone–many are assuming the unnamed someone to be Travis.
Although she didn’t directly refer to Travis, who she’s been dating since September 2023 and got engaged to this year, the lyrics seemed to point to him.

In the pre-chorus, Taylor crooned: “And if you’d never come for me/I might’ve drowned in the melancholy/I swore my loyalty to me, myself, and I/Right before you lit my sky up.”
Months before she began dating Travis two years ago, she was in a years long relationship with actor Joe Alwyn, whom she dated from around spring 2017 until spring of 2023.
Taylor appeared to detail the issues she and Joe were facing during their relationship at the time in the song You’re Losing Me, from her 2022 album Midnights. She sung on the record then: “How long could we be a sad song / ’Til we were too far gone to bring back to life? / I gave you all my best me’s, my endless empathy / And all I did was bleed as I tried to be the bravest soldier / Fighting in only your army, frontlines, don’t you ignore me / I’m the best thing at this party (You’re losing me).”
Despite the heartbreak, Taylor moved forward and began seeing Travis, who she seems to be crediting with rescuing her from the single life, where she appeared to feel alone.
This is evident in the chorus of The Fate of Ophelia, in which the lyrics are: “All that time, I sat alone in my tower/You were just honing your powers/Now I can see it all (See it all)/Late one night, you dug me out of my grave and/Saved my heart from the fate of Ophelia (Ophelia)/Keep it one hundrеd on the land, the sea, thе sky/Pledge allegiance to your hands, your team, your vibes/Don’t care where the hell you been, ’cause now you’re mine.
