Taylor Swift and Disney+ announced Thursday morning that the final two episodes of her docuseries “The End of an Era” will go up on the service early on the morning of Dec. 23, rather than Dec. 26, as previously expected.
“As an early gift to fans around the world, the final two episodes will premiere early on December 23 at 12am PT,” Disney+ announced on social media.
Technically, Disney+ had not officially posted which days the second and third batches of episodes would appear — only that the first two would go up on Dec. 12, and then the remainder would go up in further two-episode batches over the following weeks. But Disney-owned ABC and other outlets had previously reported that the docuseries would conclude on Dec. 26.
Moving the airdate up by three days will allow fans to get the docuseries off their desk (to borrow a phrase) before Christmas arrives. As it stood, if the episodes had gone up as expected very late on Christmas night at midnight PT/3 a.m. ET, many Swifties would have been rather distracted throughout the holiday festivities, staying up late on the 25th waiting for Santa Taylor to arrive.
As for the middle batch of Episodes 3 and 4? Those remain scheduled by Disney+ for the expected time — this Friday morning, the 19th, as the clock strikes midnight on the west coast and 3 a.m. on the east.
In a preview of the middle episodes aired on “Good Morning America” Thursday, Swifties got a glimpse of the star talking about introducing a new bodysuit after only having one “Reputation” outfit on the Eras Tour, and about continuing to perform despite a skin-ripping incident one night mid-performance. “One time I trip over the hem of my dress, skid the palm of my hand off… wasn’t late.”
Reactions to the first two episodes were strong among fans, and with press, with Variety writing, “The first two installments of the six-episode series are entertaining, absorbing, emotional… and surprisingly eager to spotlight fan-beloved supporting characters.”
