TUPELO • Tupelo Community Theatre will usher in its new season this weekend with the musical “May We All,” the brainchild of Brian Kelley of the band Florida Georgia Line.
The musical will delight fans of country music as it presents a magical mix of both classic and contemporary.
The show will open at 7 p.m. this Thursday, with followup performances on Friday, Aug. 29, and Saturday, Aug. 30. There will also be a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday. Tickets may be purchased online at tctlyric.com.
Set in the fictional town of Harmony, Tennessee — “the town that sings” — “May We All” tells the story of Jenna Coates, whose dream is to make it in Nashville and her return home with dashed dreams and empty pockets.
Lisa Ross directs. She has appeared on the Lyric stage in musicals, but this is her first time to direct a musical.
Some of the biggest names in country music — then and now — will be celebrated through the show’s music: Loretta Lynn, Conway Twitty, Keith Urban, Kacey Musgraves, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Chris Stapleton, Kenny Chesney and many more. Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard of Florida Georgia Line wrote two songs specifically for “May We All.”
No matter how your musical taste may run, old country or new, there’ll be something for everyone in this show.
“May We All” has 25 cast members and a handful of folks make up the backstage crew.
“May We All,” never released on Broadway, premiered June 7, 2022, at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Nashville.
