Teyana Taylor Addresses Viral Knicks Championship Security Incident

Teyana Taylor is clearing the air after a viral video showed security preventing her from immediately getting onto the court following the New York Knicks‘ championship-clinching victory.

On Tuesday, a clip shared on Instagram by content creator Roger Hamilton appeared to show that Taylor had been denied access to the floor as fans and celebrities celebrated the Knicks’ first NBA title since 1973. But according to the singer and actress, the situation wasn’t nearly as dramatic as it appeared.

“A few things here,” Taylor commented on the post. “I was minding my business on FaceTime then I start walking towards the proper entrance and was actually stopped by the first young lady you see talking to me.”

Taylor said the confusion was quickly addressed after people close to the team stepped in.

“Thennnn KAT’s dad and a few others told me to come in right there where they seen me,” she explained. “Then the other lady came over.”

Rather than criticizing security, Taylor suggested the employee was simply overwhelmed by the chaos that followed New York’s historic win.

“I think she was just a little overwhelmed, lol. It was a lot happening,” Taylor wrote. “She was def over doing her job but at least she was doing it!”

Taylor added that she wasn’t interested in forcing her way through the crowd just to get onto the court.

“Honestly, EVERYBODY had a hard time getting onto the court at some point,” she wrote. “I just wasn’t willing to rush or trample my way in.”

In the end, the delay was short-lived.

“Trust me, I had everything I needed to have,” Taylor said. “I simply had to walk down to the proper entry. I was perfectly fine and on the court less than about 60 seconds after this was recorded.”

She capped off the message by assuring fans she still enjoyed every second of the celebration.

“I had an absolute blast!” she wrote.

Taylor also shared another post celebrating the Knicks’ championship run and shouting out several players, including Karl-Anthony Towns and Jordan Clarkson.

“Still not over thissssss,” she wrote. “Superrrrrr prouda my dawgssssssss @karltowns, @jordanclarksons, the whole squaddddd & @jordynwoods bagggg! Y’all really brought that s**t home! LFGGGGGGGGG @nyknicks.”

Taylor’s nod to Jordyn Woods’ orange clutch referenced one of the Knicks’ more unlikely playoff storylines. Woods, the fiancée of Towns, carried the bag — the Tux Clutch “Summer Citrus” mini from her own Woods By Jordyn line — throughout the postseason, and many fans jokingly began treating it as a good-luck charm as New York marched toward its long-awaited championship.
