A controversial reality star’s cousin has been arrested on suspicion of murdering their grandmother.
Dakota Sweeney of Carrollton, Missouri, was arrested on Wednesday, April 22, the night before his famous cousin, West Wilson, filmed a reunion with his fellow Summer House stars. Carroll County law enforcement discovered 75-year-old Gayle R. Wilson dead while responding to reports of a shooting at a residence.
Officers also state this witness said Sweeney and Gayle had argued earlier in the night over Sweeney not helping with household chores, per TMZ.
Sweeney was arrested without incident at the scene. After taking him into custody, officers say they found a holster on him.
He has since been charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action, according to a statement from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Sweeney is currently being held at Caldwell County Jail on a no-bond warrant as the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control has begun their investigating into the homicide.
Wilson’s father, Bruce, and Sweeney’s mom, Kelly, are both Gayle’s stepchildren. Her surviving family members include her husband, Roger, four children, and seven grandchildren, including Wilson and Sweeney.
Her obituary said she “lived a life marked by creativity, kindness, and cherished moments.”
Meanwhile, Wilson has been in the headlines for his romantic relationship with co-star Amanda Batula, which was a huge topic of conversation at last week’s reunion in New York City.
The sports journalist previously dated Batula’s friend, Ciara Miller, and has been close with Batula’s estranged husband, Kyle Cooke.
Leaked audio from the Season 10 reunion reveals that Miller called Batula a “f–king snake” for dating West, while Batula defended their romance. Cooke can also be heard calling Wilson a “schmuck.”
As Batula, 34, engaged in a verbal battle with her co-stars, Wilson remained mostly silent.
After the reunion, Page Six obtained photos of Wilson and Batula leaving the venue together and going to a friend’s house. Wilson has not broken his silence on the reunion.
According to Cooke’s Threads post on Tuesday, April 28, Wilson let Batula take a “brutal beat down” and apparently didn’t have her “back” during the reunion.
Batula and Wilson confirmed their relationship on March 31, sharing in a joint Instagram statement, “We’ve seen the growing online speculation, so while this is still very new, we wanted to provide some clarity.
“It was never our intention to purposely hide anything. Given the complicated relationship dynamics involved and the scrutiny that comes with being on a reality show, we need a little space to process things privately before speaking on it.”
The continued, “We’ve shown up for each other as friends over the years, through all the highs and lows, and what’s developed recently was the last thing either of us expected.
“Our connection grew out of a genuine, long-standing friendship, which made it especially important for us to approach this with care.”
Up until then, the couple kept their relationship a secret from the rest of their Summer House castmates, including Cooke and Miller.
On the April 20 episode of his podcast, Wilson insisted “there was no overlap” in his relationship with Batula and claimed that they were both “single” when they paired up.
