Teyana Taylor was found in contempt of court and was ordered to pay her ex-husband, Iman Shumpert, $70,000 as part of their court battle, Us Weekly can exclusively report.
On August 5, the judge’s final order was entered in Taylor and Shumpert’s fight over who violated their 2024 divorce judgment. They both accused the other being in contempt of court, which is when someone disobeys or disrespects the court and/or its orders. They each demanded that the other be sentenced to jail time (Taylor eventually dropped her incarceration plea).
The order revealed a hearing took place on July 25, where Taylor, 34, and Shumpert, 35, were both present with their lawyers.
The judge heard testimony from Taylor and Shumpert, third-party witnesses and reviewed evidence submitted by the exes.
Per the order, the court denied Taylor’s request to find Shumpert in contempt. The judge said she had failed to “present sufficient evidence” to support her allegation that the former NBA star leaked information regarding their divorce judgment to the press. The judge also denied her request that her ex pay her legal bills.

In regard to Shumpert’s request that Taylor be found in contempt for allegedly violating their parenting plan, that was also denied. The judge said he had failed to establish that Taylor’s actions were “willfully contemptuous.”
Shumpert also accused Taylor of violating the terms of the divorce agreement, pointing to an Instagram video on March 19, 2025, that included information about the judgment. The judge did agree with Shumpert that Taylor willfully violated a prohibition in their divorce judgment prohibiting any disclosure of the judgment. “The court finds [Taylor] in violation of the Final Judgment and Decree of Divorce and is in willful contempt, the docs read.”

Taylor accused Shumpert of being the one who leaked information about their divorce to the press. The court noted that Taylor failed to present any evidence that Shumpert spoke to any blog about the divorce or leaked documents. “It appears Taylor and her counsel failed to engage in even a minimal amount of diligence to determine whether her claim of contempt had any factual support at all before the petition was filed,” the order read.
The order noted that Taylor had refused to answer questions from Shumpert “inquiring about her assets and her income, further stating that such information was completely irrelevant to any issue.”
The court noted that Taylor has or will appear in no less than three movies since the divorce judgment was filed in July 2025. “Additionally, she has been cast and will appear in a television series beginning in Fall 2025.”

Shumpert argued Taylor had the resources to pay for his legal fees. “Taylor has failed and refused to produce any evidence to repel such a claim or charge against her,” the order read.
The court ordered Taylor to pay Shumpert’s lawyer $70,000 for legal fees “to be paid in full no later than 2 weeks from the” court order.

As Us first reported, Taylor denied all of Shumpert’s allegations in court. She claimed she had tried to coparent with her ex but he “remains mad … for no apparent reason.”
In an alleged private message sent from Taylor to Shumpert, submitted into evidence, she wrote, “You’re so bitter and clearly can’t seem to get out of your emotions! This is draining!!! You keep throwing stones and hiding your hands! YOU ARE A PROFESSIONAL VICTIM. Leave me the hell alone PLEASE!!!!”

Taylor and Shumpert wed in 2016 and split in 2023. Taylor filed for divorce in early 2023. The case was put on hold for several months while they tried to reconcile, but their attempts were unsuccessful.
After months of back and forth, the divorce judgment was entered in July 2024. Taylor and Shumpert share two children: Junie Shumpert, born in 2015, and Rue Shumpert, born in 2020.
