After hopping from the culinary universe, The Bear star Jeremy Allen White has finally made his way into the sacred Star Wars galaxy. He voices Rotta the Hutt, the son of Jabba the Hutt from the original trilogy, in The Mandalorian & Grogu.
In an interview with Good Morning America, White recalled the events that led up to him landing the role. Praising Jon Favreau for his unmatched directorial skills, White said, “You know, it’s funny, I met Jon Favreau, who directed the film and the series prior, and I’ve been such a huge fan of Jon’s for a very long time, and so we talked about movies and I asked about Swingers. And he said, ‘Would you like to come in and maybe talk to me about doing a voiceover for Star Wars?’”
“[I said] ‘I love Star Wars, I’d be so happy to,’ and then, in the moment, almost, I discovered the weight of the character I was voicing,” he shared.
Interestingly, The Mandalorian & Grogu marks Rotta’s live-action debut; previously, appearing only in the 2008 animated film Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
The film also stars Pedro Pascal as The Mandalorian, Sigourney Weaver as Ward, and Jonny Coyne as Imperial Warlord, among others. It is scheduled for release on May 22, 2026.
