It’s time to go back to Downton, or at least hopefully it is. In a sneak peek clip from the upcoming Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, Downton’s patriarch Lord Grantham (Hugh Bonneville) and his daughter Lady Mary Crawley (Michelle Dockery) are seen apartment hunting in London. While the more progressive Mary seems to be coping with the idea of living in a flat, her father is stunned by the concept of residing in a building with strangers, including a family he can hear walking about above him. So who is moving into a new apartment and will the Crawley’s finally bid adieu to Downton after all these years? Only time will tell.
Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, the third film following the beloved BBC series which ran from 2010 to 2015, will hit theaters on Sept. 12, 2025. The movie continues to follow the inhabitants of Downton Abbey into the 1930s, picking up after the events of both the original 2019 film as well as 2022’s Downton Abbey: A New Era. The Grande Finale sees the Crawleys contending with modernity, economic difficulties and the loss of the Dowager Countess (Maggie Smith), who passed away at the end of the previous film.
The sprawling Downton Abbey cast is nearly back in its entirety with Laura Carmichael (Lady Edith), Jim Carter (Carson), Raquel Cassidy (Baxter), Paul Copley (Mr. Mason), Brendan Coyle (Mr. Bates), Kevin Doyle (Mr. Molesley), Michael Fox (Andy), Joanne Froggatt (Anna), Paul Giamatti (Harold Levinson), Harry Hadden-Paton (Bertie), Robert James-Collier (Barrow), Allan Leech (Branson), Phyllis Logan (Mrs. Hughes), Elizabeth McGovern (Cora), Sophie McShera (Daisy), Lesley Nicol (Mrs. Patmore), Douglas Reith (Lord Merton), Dominic West (Guy Dexter) and Penelope Winton (Isobel) all joining Bonneville and Dockery. As with the previous film, The Grand Finale is directed by Simon Curtis and written by Downton creator Julian Fellowes.
