Brock Powell, who portrays the role of Gunnar Hansen, AKA Leatherface, in Monster: The Ed Gein Story, recently shared whether he would return in a potential Texas Chainsaw project. Monster: The Ed Gein Story was created by Ryan Murphy and dropped on Netflix on October 3, 2025. Serial killer Ed Gein inspired the character of Leatherface, who was featured as the main antagonist in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Brock Powell wants to return as Leatherface for potential Texas Chainsaw project
The veteran voice actor recently sat down for a conversation, in which he revealed that he would love to reprise the role of Leatherface again.
Brock Powell portrayed Gunnar Hansen’s Leatherface in Monster: The Ed Gein Story. He has also played the character for a music video and a theme park attraction previously. As the rights of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre installment are being reportedly acquired by A24, the actor was asked if he would like to return to the role in the future.
Powell stated to The Direct, “Absolutely, yeah. There was a lot of speculation, and there were a lot of names in the running [like] Oz Perkins. Deadline mentioned that Glen Powell might have a TV show, or there might be a TV version. Any day, anytime, any chance to play this character again… So if A24 is doing Texas Chainsaw [and they] came calling for anything. I would absolutely pick up that phone call.”
Additionally, the Mickey Mouse Funhouse star hinted at reprising Leatherface’s role a fourth time in the future. He added, “It’s funny how the character keeps coming back in orbit, and especially in my orbit. And so I like to think this is the third time I’ve played Leatherface, but not the last time I’ll play Leatherface, because it just seems to keep coming around.”
Brock Powell further shared how he was unaware whether he was using the real chainsaw while filming or not. He said, “Our production designer, who did all the Property Master, I should say. Cameron created two versions of the chainsaw. One was a rubber mold indistinguishable from the real chainsaw without the parts in it. I could not tell you, because they are so indistinguishable. I can’t recall on the day which one I was using.”
