The Princess of Wales is once again leaning into green. On Tuesday, October 14, Kate Middleton joined Prince William on a visit to Northern Ireland, wearing one of her most meaningful coats, a long, military-style design by Alexander McQueen.

Beyond its timeless elegance, the piece carries history and subtle messaging, especially when it comes to her connection with Meghan Markle.

Just a few days ago, Queen Letizia of Spain and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands also stepped out in shades of green, confirming it as the color of choice among royals this fall.

Earlier this month, Máxima wore a refined olive hue for the coronation of Grand Duke Guillaume of Luxembourg, while Letizia dazzled in vibrant emerald during Spain’s National Day celebrations. For her Northern Ireland engagement, the princess chose the striking McQueen coat, a deep, Irish-inspired green with structured shoulders, a high collar, a defined waist, and a sweeping hemline that brushed her Gianvito Rossi brown boots.

The coat first made headlines in January 2020, when Kate wore it during her first public outing after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their departure from royal duties, the now-famous “Megxit.”

She later revived the same coat for the Sandringham Christmas service in 2022, just days after the release of ‘Harry & Meghan’ on Netflix. Whether intentional or not, the timing once again draws quiet parallels between the two women.

Now, the choice seems especially pointed, as Meghan has been in the spotlight with a string of high-profile appearances in New York and Paris Fashion Week.

As this royal style streak continues, one thing is clear, from London to Luxembourg and Madrid to Tokyo, green has officially become the royal color of the season.
